Engaging English Learners 101 by Literacy ConneXus prepares volunteers to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) in community and faith-based settings. Each participant completes a 3-hour online, self-paced training before attending a 4-hour in-person workshop. At the workshop, experienced teacher trainers share hands-on teaching activities, tips for success, and useful resources.
This session is being offered at the Metroplex Literacy Conference at Dallas Baptist University, March 8, 2024, 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Register for Engaging English Learners 101 and you will AUTOMATICALLY be registered for the Conference. All Conference attendees will enjoy a light Breakfast, Snack, and Boxed Lunch. In additon, they will have the opportunity to hear the lunchtime speaker and to visit with representatives from curriculum vendors and literacy groups. Take advantage of this fun and convenient opportunity for training!

The online, self-paced instruction MUST be completed before attending the in-person workshop.
Attendees receive a Literacy ConneXus certificate upon completion of the 7 hours of training.

Note: Because most adult ESL students in church ministries are beginners, the emphasis is on teaching that level. However, higher level teachers who have never attended the TECs* ESL Teacher Training, Engaging English Learners 101, will also benefit. Many of the same techniques used for beginners are also appropriate for the higher levels.
